Congresswoman Duckworth Stands Up for Small Business by Introducing Paperwork Relief Legislation

Mar 25, 2013
Press Release

Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth announced that she was introducing the Small Business Paperwork Relief Act of 2013. The legislation will waive fines for most first time paper work infractions. A companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Senator David Vitter (R-LA).

“When I listen to small businesses owners in the 8th Congressional District, they tell me that they are eager to expand and hire new employees, but that burdensome regulations are standing in the way,” said Duckworth. “New businesses in particular have difficulty getting their operations up and running and keeping track of paperwork at the same time.”
“The Small Business Paperwork Relief Act will give small businesses the opportunity to correct a first time error in filling out federal paperwork without being fined. Penalizing businesses when they make their first mistakewhen the stakes are highest, can prevent small businesses from succeeding and creating jobs in our community. I am proud to have joined Senator Vitter in introducing this bipartisan legislation and I look forward to continuing to work across the aisle to win a victory for small businesses throughout this country.”
